Setting

The Viper of Djerad Thymar

Nayiss was conceived to be a weapon of the abyss. Born of a dark ritual enacted by a marilith matron, she had always been destined to be nothing more than a puppet. Once she got older, she fought against that destiny, and rebelled against her nature, becoming a terror to the evils of the world.Unfortunately, her role in the cosmic war proved to be greater than she would have wished. She first encountered her eventual husband, Jarkul, while infiltrating the Cult of the Dragon—an apocalypse cult dedicated to the return of the dread dragon goddess Tiamat. Operating as an agent of the cult in the hopes of rising through the ranks to decapitate it from the inside, she was sent to assassinate the Tymanther ambassador. However, she was well over her head and the woman that sent her knew it.The attempted assassination went south, and rather than die for a cult that she was trying to destroy, Nayiss surrendered and turned over the information she had to Jarkul. It was the beginning of a multi-year partnership, during which the mystery of Nayiss's conception plagued the two of them. However, their focus was the Cult of the Dragon, and together, along with several boon companions, they were able to vanquish the cult and stop the return of the dread Dragon Queen.Throughout their journey, it was revealed that Nayiss's demonic mother was none other than the marilith Reluhantis—one of the first daughters, along with Unhath, of the Queen of Mariliths, Shaktari, and a majordomo of the demon lord Graz'zt. It was clear Reluhantis had some greater purpose in mind. Shaktari, too, had turned her gaze to her granddaughter, as she found kinship in the desire for vengeance against Reluhantis. After all, the demonic queen's own daughters had been responsible for her downfall. But, the truth of Nayiss's purpose remained a mystery. However, with Nayiss at his side, Jarkul was able to return to his home in Djerad Thymar and establish a clan to replace the one that had been denied to him. Clan Ourobori was formally recognized, and Nayiss too became a member of Thymari society with the moniker of the Viper of Djerad Thymar well-established due to her efforts in the wars against the monsters of Unther, led by the god Typhon—another entity who had interested in Nayiss's role in the cosmic web.

Personality

Nayiss encompasses many femme fatale tropes and is sly, confident, flirtatious, and deadly. She holds her insecurities close to her chest, and always greets situations with a smile: sinister or genuine depending on the situation. In most instances, she appears entirely unflappable. She has very little fear in the wake of a life of dangers, save one: the theft of her freedom and autonomy. She is a wild card, a woman of cunning recklessness that will face danger head-on and who does not mourn those lost in the neverending war against evil.Jarkul is one of the sole people that shake up that mold. He is her soulmate, utterly and completely, but also the singular force that keeps her from slipping down a darker path.

Advocate of the dead

Velameestra is the daughter of Lirath Windrunner in an AU depiction of the World of Warcraft story, where the Dark Portal didn't open until 40 years later. When the Dark Portal opened utilizing the energy of the Sunwell in the heart of Silvermoon, the quel'dorei were fractured and chased from their lands. Many of them died in the process. When a not-insignificant fraction of their people were raised into undeath, Velameestra joined their number, seeking to stand by them in their fight for their right to exist. This declaration ultimately put her in the crossfire of the Scarlet Crusade, and she suffered extreme torture at their hands that permanently cost her one of her eyes and left the mark of the Crusade branded upon her torso before she was freed and the organization was chased from Lordaeron. Her importance amongst her people continued to rise as the world was sent into flux with the looming threat of the Burning Legion, and the sin'dorei—a nation of living and undead—sought their place in the world.

Personality

Velameestra is a scholar to her core with a natural curiosity and fascination with the world that is unfortunately often overshadowed by the extreme stress of the burdens on her shoulders. While frequently described as "cold", she actually cares deeply and simply has a resting demeanor that can appear callous at first glance. She is deeply melancholic by her nature, and its rare to coax much more than a small smirk to her lips or a chuff to her breath, even when directed toward something she finds genuinely funny. She prefers listening or companionable silence, and is touch-averse to those she doesn't know or trust. However, to those she does, she can be quietly and intimately affectionate.

Survival through any means

Before the Legion came, Nalrevin was a mundane eredar named Vuu'lin. She was the proprietor of a small culinary establishment called the Plump Little Talbuk, where she offered a variety of catering services, baked goods, and other delicious foods. She was well-liked by her community, and she normally stocked artisan-made talbuk plushies for the comfort of young children. When Velen fled, she believed the words of Archimonde and Kil'jaeden. After all, the majority of her leadership claimed they knew the way forward, and Velen was too cowardly to see it. Her leaders had never led them astray before, and she was simply a normal woman. She was so terribly wrong. The promises of immortality were true, but the cost had never been relayed, and their lives would never be the same. She tried to live as she once did, simply as a demon, but she found her old life torn from her: her store was destroyed when Argus was pulled into the Nether, and the job she had managed to get at a demon-owned establishment was short-lived due to the betrayal of some supposedly "hungry" imps she had taken pity on. It had all been a deception to get their Mother into the graces of the owner. A pitifully stupid thing, but a thing nonetheless. And a lesson of what it would actually take to survive as a newly-made demon in the Nether. She turned to drug-dealing first to claw her way back up from nothing, but over the millennia she realized that her skill with a kitchen knife could be turned into something more lucrative. It took a long time to build into the skilled assassin she is now. There were a lot of stumbles and mistakes and near death experiences, but she survived at the expense of the woman she once was.Through her dealings, she came in contact with the info broker, Val'zuun, and a new steady stream of income was offered to her. However, over the last 500 years, something else bloomed in the process: something that started with a seduction for a better deal.

Personality

Vin is a hardass woman with a temper. Every aspect of her appearance and her demeanor is specifically crafted to make her look tough and unapproachable. In the slums of Argus, it helps ensure she isn't made a target herself. She's become disillusioned with the nature of the world, and any good will toward the decision Kil'jaeden and Archimonde made, and toward her fellow demons, has been consumed by the fel fire that burns in her blood. She understands how to navigate the underworld, and most importantly, she knows to survive: by assuming everyone is out to get you, and ensuring they never get the chance. She's greedy, doesn't do anything for free, and operates with a selfish mind, because not doing so means weakness and a sure track to destruction. But part of her, a part of her she finds foolish and idealistic, still hopes. Hopes that someday simply surviving won't be only option, and she can return to a simpler life.

Val'zuun | Situationship

Ancestry
Eredar (Man'ari)

Gender
Male (He/Him)

Val'zuun is an info broker and informant that has operated on Argus since the fall of the planet to the Burning Legion. Once he was a census worker, and his breadth of information and skills in organizing it became invaluable in the role he came to fill. While he once saw little hope in the status quo of a demon-infested Argus ever changing, his situationship with Vin caused him to desire something his wealth couldn't buy: a safe place where Vin could stop killing to survive, and where they both could be honest with their feelings for each other.

Personality

Val'zuun is calm, reasonable, and tries to give the aura of someone who is unshakable. He has a certain arrogance that has come with his millennia as one of the most well-connected info brokers on Argus, and while he lacks much ability to defend himself beyond rudimentary skills with a dagger, his contacts and connections provide an adequate shield. After all, he is the lynch pin of a lot of income flow, and threats to that often come with deadly repercussions. But before the world burned, he was also an incredibly mundane man. He wasn't a soldier or a mage or some high-ranking member of society, he was a census worker with a wicked memory for faces, and it was those skills, along with healthy skepticism, that gave him the ability to survive.

Relationship with Nalrevin

Vin and Val'zuun's relationship is not the healthiest. Ultimately the nature of their existence as demons as well as the unsafe situation on Argus means they cannot be truly genuine with each other. Vin has a temper and is constantly seeking to find confirmation of her view of the world being nothing but cruel, and she is prone to firing accusations at Val'zuun for his motives, no matter how genuine they are. But likewise, Val'zuun has often gone behind her back and dug into her privacy all in the name of trying to keep her safe.Regardless, they love each other, and they show it in moments buried beneath excuses to justify their intimacy and affection, all without ever saying it.After all, on Argus, you can always deny what's never said.

Vin was the one that started something deeper than simply broker and and assassin. It was framed as a seduction for a better deal, and due to his baseline attraction for her, it was one he ultimately played along with. It was Val'zuun's anticipation that she would eventually get bored and move on, but she didn't. Instead, their physical forays became more and more intimate as Vin used them as a smokescreen for intimacy and affection that she desperately craved in an unforgiving, cruel world.Gradually, they fell in love, but it was a love built on excuses and masks because genuine honesty had the risk of getting them both killed.Val'zuun's curiosity eventually drove him to uncover who Vin was before the Burning Legion, and he found a trail that led him to a woman named Vuu'lin: the proprietor of a catering service. He had met her once, when his workplace had commissioned her services, and it had been his intention to ask her out back then, but a series of events had made it impossible: she had left before he finished work, he had gotten a business card and then lost it, and after the third unlucky event he had simply decided it was the universe telling him she was out of his league. But there she was: the assassin that had come back into his life with a fury that his reasonableness had calmed. He scrubbed clean the path that had led to this revelation, and spent a lot of resources tracking down and retrieving possibly the only remnant of her old life that remained: a battered, worn plushie of a talbuk that had once been sold at her store, but when he held it his hands he realized gifting it to her would have been perceived as a threat. Thus he hid it away.Until she found it. And take it as a threat she did, despite the answers he was able to provide. Their conversation resulted in her storming away and disappearing, and he had thought whatever they had doomed by the overreach he had made, but to his surprise... she came back. And no matter how many other arguments they had, she always came back.Eventually, he was caught up in the machinations of one of his contacts: Rakeesh, a man who had large ideations for the state of the Legion. While he was skeptical of it, he recognized he was too far in to reliably back out. Rakeesh also took interest in one of the "clients" of Val'zuun's who had repeatedly completed Rakeesh's jobs with flying colors. It was at Rakeesh's behest that Val'zuun break his confidentiality and arrange a meeting with the assassin, and Val'zuun relented, but in the process Vin was trapped in the same conspiracy: a situation Val'zuun felt remorse for, but also did not regret, as it ensured she couldn't leave and get herself killed before he had the chance to build a life where she didn't have to kill.
